From Students to Soldiers: Kazakhstan's New Recruits Begin Their Transformation
Over 230 young recruits from Akmola, East Kazakhstan, and Turkestan regions have begun basic military training. Among them are students, graduates, and volunteers who have paused their studies or careers to enlist. Their journey marks the start of a demanding but transformative experience. The group includes individuals like Viktor Kuzmin, a poetry lover from Ust-Kamenogorsk who put his university education on hold to join voluntarily. Another recruit, Mahanbet Kuttymurat, a 23-year-old graduate of the Kazakh-British Technical University, also chose to serve. Their backgrounds vary, but all are now focused on the same goal: becoming skilled soldiers.
Basic training serves as a critical phase where discipline, endurance, and teamwork are built. Brigade officers take time to understand each recruit’s strengths and motivations, tailoring their approach to help them succeed. Lieutenant Colonel Boltagerei Shekeyev noted that motivated recruits often push their peers to excel in training.
For many, the experience reshapes their perspective. Ruslan Mutepov, one of the recruits, shared that military service changes how one views challenges, making them seem more manageable. Khan Mamenov, a recruit from Astana, is working hard to meet military standards quickly, improving each day. Meanwhile, Corporal Talgat Slambekov stressed the importance of finding the right method for each soldier to boost their confidence.
The training aims to prepare them for decisive action, ensuring they can stand firm against any adversary. As they progress, the recruits are becoming more than just trainees—they are forming the foundation of future soldiers. The recruits’ dedication is clear as they adapt to military life. With officers providing individual support, they are developing the skills and mindset needed for service. Their transformation from civilians to soldiers will shape their futures—and potentially inspire others to follow.
