Iloilo City launches P72M aid packages to combat inflation and joblessness

The Iloilo City Government has rolled out a series of financial aid programmes to support residents facing economic challenges. From fuel subsidies for taxi drivers to expanded social pensions for senior citizens, the initiatives aim to ease pressures caused by rising costs and inflation.

The city has also secured P72 million in national funding to boost rice assistance, sourced directly from local farmers to strengthen the agricultural sector. Nearly 1,000 taxi drivers in Iloilo City will soon receive P1,000 fuel subsidy coupons. The move comes as part of broader efforts to help workers cope with increasing fuel prices.

A new P30-million emergency employment scheme, the Kabulig Pangkabuhayan Emergency Employment (Kaya) Program, is also being launched. It will provide temporary jobs in barangays and government offices for over 5,000 residents, with assignments lasting up to three months.

For families in the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), additional support is available. Mothers can access Sustainable Livelihood Programs, offering financial aid and small business allowances. Youth from these households may apply for the Uswag Scholarship Program or enrol in skills training.

The city is further expanding its Social Pension Program, adding 1,000 more senior citizens to the list of beneficiaries. This brings the total number of supported elderly residents to 9,000. Meanwhile, over 900 persons with disabilities (PWDs) have already received assistance through the ongoing subsidy programme. The initiatives address immediate financial needs while promoting long-term stability. Fuel subsidies, emergency jobs, and educational grants are now available to thousands of residents. The city’s focus remains on supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening local industries through targeted aid.
