Sarawak Premier seeks tech partnerships on UK and Ireland visit
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will embark on an official working visit to the UK and Ireland from May 2 to May 5. The trip includes stops in Manchester, Bristol, and Dublin to explore partnerships in technology and infrastructure. The visit begins in Manchester, where Abang Johari will join the Sarawak Agenda-Townhall programme. He will also attend a dinner with local Sarawakians and meet representatives from the Manchester Regional Government at the British Muslim Heritage Centre.
In Bristol, the Premier will tour the National Composites Centre. He is also scheduled to attend an engagement session between SMD Semiconductor and the University of Bristol. At the event, he will deliver a speech and witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding involving the company. The final leg takes place in Dublin, where Abang Johari will visit the K2 Data Centre. The trip focuses on strengthening Sarawak’s capabilities in data centres, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and talent development.
The four-day visit aims to foster collaboration in key technological sectors. Meetings with industry leaders, academic institutions, and government officials will shape future projects for Sarawak’s development.
