Prime Minister Modi set to unveil Bengaluru's yellow metro line and kick off phase-3 on August 10th.

The city of Bengaluru is set for a significant leap in its public transportation system as the much-anticipated Yellow Line Metro project and the Phase-3 project are all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 10, 2025.

The 19.15 km Yellow Line, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra, will consist of 16 stations and initially have three driverless trains in service. Passenger services on this line are scheduled to start from August 11, 2025, with full-scale operations with a fleet of 15 trains expected by early 2026. This venture is estimated to cost ₹5,056.99 crore and is expected to cater to close to eight lakh riders.

The Yellow Line Metro is expected to address the perennial issue of the Silk Board traffic jam, making commuting more efficient for the city's residents. The project's inauguration is a result of Prime Minister Modi's personal insistence on expediting its opening.

In addition to the Yellow Line, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the 44.65 km long Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project on the same day. The Phase-3 project, which will cost Rs 15,611 crore, aims to further enhance the city's public transportation network. However, specific timelines for Phase-3 beyond the foundation laying have not been detailed in the sources.

The announcement for the inauguration of the Yellow Line was made by BJP leader Tejasvi Surya on his social media platform 'X'. Surya had recently staged a demonstration to open the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro Rail project, expressing the public's eagerness for the project's completion.

Together, the Yellow Line Metro and Metro Phase-3 projects are expected to benefit nearly 25 lakh people in Bengaluru South, providing a much-needed relief to the city's traffic congestion. Public transport is cited as the only viable solution to address the city's growing traffic problems.

This development marks a significant step forward in Bengaluru's urban development and will undoubtedly improve the city's infrastructure, making it more efficient and sustainable for its growing population.
