Denzlingen's Solar Canopy Project Aims to Boost Climate Goals by 2026

A bold solar project could cut emissions and energize the town's infrastructure. But will the council greenlight it in time? Trees may fall, but Denzlingen's climate ambitions are rising.

Denzlingen's Solar Canopy Project Aims to Boost Climate Goals by 2026

Denzlingen is planning a new solar project to help meet its climate goals. The town aims to install a large photovoltaic system at the stadium on Stuttgarter Straße. A final decision on the scheme will be made by the municipal council on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The proposed installation is an elevated solar canopy covering roughly 482 square metres. It will have a capacity of about 110 kilowatt-peak and connect to an existing transformer station on-site. The electricity produced will supply both the local heating network and the nearby school campus.

To make space for the structure, several trees near the stadium entrance will be removed. The municipality has secured state funding to cover 90% of the costs for the supporting framework. An additional €100,000 has been set aside in the 2026 budget to complete the project. Due to tight funding deadlines, the building authority will handle contract awards directly. If approved, construction is expected to finish by December 2026.

The solar canopy would mark a step toward Denzlingen’s climate neutrality targets. Once operational, the system will provide renewable energy for local infrastructure. The council’s decision next May will determine whether the project moves forward.
