Malaysia rolls out RM200 advance aid for padi farmers amid rising costs
The government has announced a new Ploughing Incentive Special Aid to support padi farmers across the country. Under this scheme, eligible growers will receive an advance payment of RM200 per hectare to ease the cost of renting ploughing machinery.
This initiative comes as part of broader efforts to address rising expenses linked to fuel and agricultural inputs, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The advance payment aims to assist nearly 240,000 registered padi farmers nationwide. It forms part of the Ploughing Incentive for Padi Farmers (IPKP), which has seen its total aid per hectare rise from RM160 to RM300.
The government has allocated RM48 million for this programme. Officials have also stressed their commitment to exploring further measures that could reduce financial strain on the public amid persistent global supply challenges.
Rising costs for fuel and farming essentials have placed additional pressure on local growers. The latest support package reflects ongoing efforts to mitigate these difficulties and ensure food production remains stable. With the advance payment now in place, farmers will have immediate help covering machinery rental costs. The increased IPKP rate and additional funding signal continued government attention to the sector’s needs.
The total allocation of RM48 million will directly benefit registered padi farmers as they prepare for the upcoming planting season.
