Honda announcement reveals steep pricing for the fresh Civic-based vehicle model.

The sixth-generation Honda Prelude, a much-awaited comeback in the automotive world, is scheduled for release in Japan, Europe, and the US by September 2025[1][2][3][4][5]. North American dealerships are expected to receive the Prelude in fall 2025.

The price for the Japanese market has been revealed, with the base model starting at an estimated ¥4,500,000 (approximately $41,000)[5]. However, the official pricing for Europe and the US remains undisclosed.

Key expected features of the new Prelude include a hybrid powertrain using an enhanced version of Honda’s e:HEV two-motor hybrid system, combining a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with electric motors in a self-charging setup[1][2][5]. This powertrain is expected to deliver a power output of 200 horsepower.

The Prelude will also feature a new "Honda S+ Shift" system, which simulates manual gear shifts with engine sound effects, torque mapping, and paddle shifters activated by a button, providing a blend of hybrid efficiency with the feel of a manual transmission[2][5].

The chassis of the Prelude borrows heavily from the Civic Type R, featuring wide front and rear tracks, Brembo front brakes, and a dual-axis front suspension[5][4]. The Prelude will be a 2-door coupe with a large hatchback-style tailgate and a 2+2 seating layout, combining sportiness with practicality and everyday usability[1][2].

The exterior styling is inspired by the concept “Unlimited Glide,” evoking the sensation of a glider with wide, balanced proportions[1]. In Japan, sport styling accessories such as aerodynamic bumper extensions, a black rear spoiler, black mirror caps, and 19-inch alloy wheels will be available[5].

Despite earlier expectations, the Prelude may have a more powerful and faster version in the future, making it a sportier alternative to the Civic with a focus on electrified driving pleasure and performance[2][5].
