Delhi Government Introduces All-Day Air Conditioned Electric Bus Tour Encompassing Key Tourist Sights
Delhi, the capital city of India, is set to enhance its tourism sector with the introduction of a full-day electric bus tour, a key initiative in its drive towards becoming a smart and environmentally friendly travel destination. The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) and the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) are collaborating on this project.
The tour, set to begin as a pilot with three to four nine-metre "DEVI" buses, will seat approximately 30 passengers each and offer air-conditioned comfort even during Delhi's summer peaks. Each bus will pause at every major location for at least one hour, allowing tourists to explore on foot.
The route covers some of Delhi's most iconic heritage monuments, cultural hubs, and markets, providing a comprehensive itinerary for tourists. Special external branding will be incorporated into the bus design to enhance Delhi's tourism image.
As part of this holistic tourism push, Delhi is planning to develop several theme-based tour circuits focusing on marketplaces, museums, cuisine, and heritage. While detailed official names of these circuits have not been publicly disclosed yet, the city is investing significantly in infrastructure, cleanliness, and sustainability to create an appealing and responsible travel destination.
A trained tourist guide will accompany passengers, and an audio translation system will offer commentary in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Marathi, Tamil, and others. Tickets for the tour are expected to cost INR 500 for adults and INR 300 for children aged six to twelve, with children under six traveling for free.
If trial projects are successful, the service might develop into other theme-based circuits, further boosting Delhi's eco-tourism and sustainable exploratory experiences. The central starting point at Baba Kharak Singh Marg is near major public transport hubs, making it easily accessible for tourists.
This electric bus tour is part of a larger drive for environmentally friendly public transport in Delhi. As of mid-2025, Delhi has more than 1,700 electric buses in service and plans to add 2,080 by the end of the year, making DTC the largest fleet of electric buses in India. This initiative serves as a marketing drive for electric transportation in the city.
Delhi's goal to become a smart and environmentally friendly travel destination by the end of the decade is further supported by the inclusion of an electric car narrative. The city is committed to sustainable tourism practices aligned with smart city objectives, supported by advanced digital tools that personalize visitor experiences and encourage sustainable travel.
