Vienna Chamber of Commerce slashes business levy by 25% over three years

The Vienna Chamber of Commerce has announced a phased reduction of the Chamber Levy 2 (KU2), set to begin in 2027. This long-awaited change follows years of advocacy and aims to ease financial pressure on local businesses. The decision was backed unanimously by the Economic Parliament. The reduction will cut the KU2 rate by 25% over three years. Starting on January 1, 2027, the levy will drop to 0.22%, then to 0.2% in 2028, and finally to 0.18% by 2029. These adjustments are expected to save businesses €22 million, supporting the national Chamber of Commerce’s broader cost-cutting goals.

Efficiency improvements have made the reduction possible. Measures include merging Chamber of Commerce locations and rolling out organisational reforms. The Vienna Chamber of Commerce has also set up a fund to assist test cases brought by or on behalf of local businesses. The move reflects a sustained push to lower financial burdens. For years, the Vienna Chamber of Commerce has prioritised reducing the levy, arguing it would boost competitiveness and growth.

The phased cuts will start in January 2027, with the levy rate steadily decreasing until 2029. The €22 million in savings will contribute directly to the national Chamber of Commerce’s financial targets. Businesses in Vienna are now set to benefit from lower costs and additional support for legal challenges.
