Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission awards New Flyer a contract for the delivery of 46 CNG-powered Xcelsior 40-foot transit buses.
Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada Orders 46 Environmentally Friendly Buses from New Flyer
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada has taken a significant step towards improving air quality and enhancing public transportation in Clark County. The commission has ordered 46 Xcelsior® compressed natural gas (CNG) buses from New Flyer, a leading manufacturer of transit buses and motor coaches.
This order marks a significant reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, with the new buses expected to emit 90% less NOx compared to diesel buses. Moreover, these buses will meet strict particulate matter requirements without the need for filters, contributing to cleaner, more breathable air for the communities they serve.
The Xcelsior CNG buses are part of a larger contract that could potentially total 129 buses, continuing a 30-year partnership between the RTC and New Flyer. This partnership has proven to be beneficial for both the agency and the citizens of Southern Nevada, delivering value daily.
Chris Stoddart, President of North American Bus and Coach (NFI), expressed his pride in this long-standing partnership. He looks forward to continuing this partnership in the years ahead, boosting tourist mobility in Las Vegas and providing eco-friendly transit options that support tourism growth.
The purchase of these buses was supported by Federal Transit Administration funds, reflecting a commitment to environmentally responsible mass transit solutions. The implementation of these buses will not only improve sustainability but also increase service capacity, preparing the RTC for future growth.
By early 2025, the RTC aims to significantly expand its fleet, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible mass transit solutions. The RTC currently operates a fleet of buses exclusively from NFI Group brands, including New Flyer, ARBOC, and Alexander Dennis.
In a statement, Chris Stoddart underscored the value that NFI Group buses bring to the RTC and the community of Southern Nevada. He reaffirmed the partnership between NFI and RTC, expressing his excitement for the years ahead.
With these new buses, the RTC is set to provide a more sustainable, eco-friendly, and efficient public transportation system for over 2.3 million residents and visitors in Clark County.
- The partnership between the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) and New Flyer, a leading automotive and transportation industry player, continues to deliver value on a broader front, as the commission invests in 129 Xcelsior CNG buses, potentially expanding to finance a greener future for transit in Southern Nevada.
- Acknowledging the significance of finance and the automotive industry in their endeavor, the RTC, with the aid of Federal Transit Administration funds, is set to boost tourism mobility in Las Vegas, providing eco-friendly transportation solutions that support tourism growth and strengthen the region's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
