Sanjay Gandhi National Park hikes fees up to 900% for 2026 visits

Visitors to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Mumbai will soon face higher charges. The revised fees, set to take effect from May 2026, cover entry, transport, and attractions inside the park. Officials say the changes will help improve facilities and manage visitor numbers more effectively. The cost of a ride on the park’s mini train has jumped from Rs 100 to Rs 300. Similarly, bus tickets from the entrance to the Kanheri Caves have tripled, rising from Rs 100 to Rs 300.

The lion and tiger safari now costs Rs 750 for adults, up from Rs 250, while children’s tickets have increased from Rs 125 to Rs 375. Morning walkers, who number between 3,000 and 5,000 daily, will also see a steep rise in fees. The annual pass for 'prabhat pheri' has surged from Rs 348 to Rs 10,000, with a monthly option available at Rs 1,000. Senior citizens can choose between Rs 500 per month or an annual pass for Rs 5,000.

Park authorities state that the new pricing aims to balance visitor demand with ecological preservation. They also plan to use the additional revenue to upgrade infrastructure and enhance the overall experience for guests. The updated tariffs mark a significant increase across most services in the park. With the changes due in May 2026, visitors will pay more for transport, safaris, and morning walks. The adjustments are intended to support better maintenance and visitor management within SGNP.
