Roadway blocked twice in January
In the coming weeks, passengers using Stuttgart's S-Bahn system will experience disruptions on the Stammstrecke, the central common track section between Schwabstraße and Hauptbahnhof, from January 10-13, 2023.
The railway has announced that only the S6 West and S8 Ost lines will cross the entire Stammstrecke during this period, with all other S-Bahn lines except S7 being affected. Specifically, S3 trains will be omitted between Pasing and Giesing, S5 trains will only run between Kreuzstraße and Giesing, and S4 trains will only run between Geltendorf and Heimeranplatz.
S6 trains will be omitted between Hackerbrücke and Trudering, while S8 trains will be omitted between Pasing and Ostbahnhof. The S2 lines will not stop at Berg am Laim or Leuchtenbergring, and will be completely omitted between Hackerbrücke and Ostbahnhof.
Replacement buses will be running between Ostbahnhof and Trudering on both weekends, also stopping at Leuchtenbergring and Berg am Laim. The S8 coming from the airport will merge with S6 at Ostbahnhof. Lines S6 Ost will only run between Ebersberg and Trudering, and S1 trains will end at Hauptbahnhof and not stop at Hackerbrücke. Lines S8 West will only run between Herrsching and Pasing.
The disruptions are due to the detection of unexploded ordnance and the construction of a new pedestrian underpass at Ostbahnhof. The Stammstrecke will also be affected again on January 18-19 due to acceptance tests for the new electronic control system at Ostbahnhof.
It is worth noting that no specific search results were found reporting on S-Bahn line changes and disruptions on the Stuttgart Stammstrecke in January 2023. The available information mainly covers general S-Bahn operations, the Stammstrecke closures in mid-2025, and other unrelated rail events in 2026 and beyond. For accurate details about the January 2023 disruptions, official Deutsche Bahn or VVS (public transport authority of Stuttgart) archives or historical notices would be required.
Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and to check the latest updates on the official Deutsche Bahn website or mobile app for the most current information on service disruptions and alternative travel options.
During the disturbances on Stuttgart's S-Bahn system from January 10-13, 2023, there might be effects on the public-transit sector, especially for those relying on the S-Bahn for transportation. Finance could also be impacted due to potential delays and increased costs for passengers who need to find alternative means of travel.
