The railway company has announced the closure of a significant section of Berlin's Stadtbahn, affecting long-distance and regional traffic from June 14 to December 12, 2022. The closure is due to construction work on the long-distance tracks, with the route between Ostbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten stations being affected.

During this period, long-distance and regional trains will be rerouted or run on partial sections to bypass the construction areas. The S-Bahn will be the only train operating on the affected section during the closure, using different tracks.

Typically, long-distance trains use diversionary routes outside the Stadtbahn corridor via regional junctions like Stendal or Potsdam during construction. Regional trains may have bus replacements or use alternative adjacent lines to keep services running around the closure periods.

For instance, during certain construction periods, ICE trains between Berlin and Hamburg have been diverted via alternate routes such as Stendal and Uelzen to avoid closed sections of track. Similarly, regional trains often use replacement bus services or adjusted regional rail routes to cover affected sectors.

The construction projects during the closure are aimed at improving the overall condition of the Stadtbahn. The announcement was made by the railway company regarding the combined construction projects, which include renovation and maintenance work on the stations, as well as renovation of switches and track connections.

The stations affected by the closure are Ostbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten. Previously, the "Berliner Morgenpost" had reported this closure. If you need detailed operational timetable data for that period, the Deutsche Bahn (DB) journey planner or live departure boards would have historical archives showing exact diversion routes for specific trains during 2022 disruptions.

The Stadtbahn, a rail link in Berlin, will experience multi-month disruptions in long-distance and regional traffic next year. It is essential to plan alternative travel arrangements during this period to ensure a smooth journey.
