'Neo Nostalgia' revives Ralph Lauren's preppy style on resale platforms
A fresh wave of interest in classic preppy fashion is sweeping through resale platforms. Depop reports a surge in searches for brands like Ralph Lauren, driven by a trend dubbed 'Neo Nostalgia'. Shoppers are now hunting for vintage oxford shirts, cable-knit jumpers and polo shirts in growing numbers.
Searches for Polo Ralph Lauren on Depop have jumped by 44% in the last month. Vintage Ralph Lauren items saw a 35% rise in the same period. The broader term 'preppy' has also climbed, with an 85% increase in searches since January.
Dora Fung, editor in chief of *10 Magazine USA*, owns over 100 Ralph Lauren pieces, both new and second-hand. She highlights the brand’s timelessness, calling it ideal for travel and everyday wear. According to her, the label’s decades-long consistency appeals to younger buyers tired of fast-changing trends. Harriet Lowson, Depop’s global brand strategy director, links the revival to a cultural shift towards personal style. She notes that vintage Ralph Lauren items stand out for their quality and practicality. The brand’s refusal to chase fleeting trends, she adds, strengthens its lasting appeal. Fung also points to Ralph Lauren’s loyalty to its core customers as a key factor. The brand’s classic designs, she argues, feel just as relevant today as they did decades ago.
The 'Neo Nostalgia' trend is bringing Ralph Lauren back into the spotlight. Resale data shows growing demand for its signature preppy pieces, from rugby shirts to knitwear. With both vintage and new items gaining traction, the brand’s enduring style continues to attract a fresh audience.
