Lower Saxony invests €25 million to modernize sports and swimming facilities in 2025

Lower Saxony is boosting its sports and swimming facilities with a fresh round of funding. The state government has extended its Sports Facility Investment Program, allocating €25 million for upgrades in 2025. This follows strong demand and a successful first round that supported 19 projects last year. By the June 30 deadline, 97 applications poured in for the latest funding round. The high interest prompted the state to release extra funds, allowing 12 more teaching pools to be renovated. These upgrades address a growing need, as many pools require modernisation to keep up with swimming lessons for young people.

The program’s focus remains on teaching pools, with €15 million earmarked for statewide renovations. Another €10 million will go through the Lower Saxony State Sports Federation to improve club sports facilities. One of the projects includes a €1.84 million renovation of the teaching pool at Hillerse Primary School. This marks the second project in the Gifhorn district to benefit, following Knesebeck’s pool upgrade in the first funding round.

Last year, the state invested around €23.5 million in 19 projects, demonstrating its commitment to long-term improvements. By continuing the program, officials aim to future-proof sports infrastructure and ensure children have access to safe, modern swimming facilities. The extended funding will support renovations across Lower Saxony, targeting both municipal and club-run facilities. With 12 additional pools now included, the program addresses urgent needs while reinforcing the state’s investment in sports and education. The total €25 million allocation for 2025 reflects ongoing efforts to modernise critical infrastructure.
