AI grocery startup Vori secures $22M to modernize independent retailers
Vori, an AI-powered grocery startup based in San Francisco, has secured $22 million in Series B funding. This latest investment brings the company’s total funding to $32 million, following a $10 million Series A round in 2022. The platform aims to modernise the grocery supply chain with smarter tools for independent retailers. Founded in 2019 by Stanford alumni Brandon Hill, Tremaine Kirkman, and Robert Pinkerton, Vori provides a unified system for inventory management, point-of-sale operations, and supply chain data. The platform helps small grocers make better restocking decisions while cutting down on staff turnover at store level.
The new funding round included participation from Cherryrock Capital, led by Stacy Brown-Philpot, as well as Greylock Partners and The Factory. Vori plans to use the investment to introduce AI solutions into an industry still reliant on outdated methods like fax machines, paper invoices, and fragmented software. Since launching in January 2024, Vori has processed over $500 million in payments across 55 cities, serving more than 1 million consumers. The U.S. food retail market, valued at $1.5 trillion, remains highly concentrated, with Walmart and Amazon controlling about a quarter of it. Despite this dominance, the sector includes 45,575 supermarkets, each averaging $711,806 in weekly sales.
The latest funding will help Vori expand its AI-driven platform for independent grocers. By replacing outdated systems, the startup aims to improve efficiency in a market where small retailers face stiff competition. The company’s growth reflects increasing demand for digital solutions in the grocery industry.
