Pacific Airport Group launches FIBRA GAP to fund $2.3B airport upgrades by 2029
Pacific Airport Group (GAP) is moving forward with plans to create a new financial trust for infrastructure upgrades. The proposed Fiduciary Investment Certificates in Energy and Infrastructure (FIBRA GAP) will provide extra funding for airport improvements. This comes as part of a broader strategy to modernise facilities and boost economic growth in the regions served by GAP’s airports. The process to establish FIBRA GAP has now begun. If approved, the trust will issue certificates to raise capital, adding to GAP’s existing financing programme launched in 2015. The first issuance will focus on funding the Master Development Plan for 2026–2029, with an estimated investment of around 40 billion pesos.
The plan includes major upgrades across GAP’s 12 Mexican airports. Passenger terminals will expand by 60%, while inspection points and access routes will grow by 35%. Aircraft parking positions are set to increase by 25%, and runway capacity will rise by 10%. These changes aim to handle growing passenger numbers and improve operational efficiency. Beyond infrastructure, the investments are expected to create jobs and stimulate local economies. The funding will also allow GAP to acquire a minority stake in its own airport concessionaires, further strengthening its financial position.
The FIBRA GAP initiative will provide a new funding stream for critical airport upgrades. The investments will support long-term growth, increase capacity, and generate economic benefits for surrounding communities. GAP’s plan aligns with broader efforts to modernise Mexico’s aviation infrastructure over the next decade.
