Vietnam and India Strengthen Ties in Digital Identity and Academic Innovation

A high-level Vietnamese delegation recently visited India to explore deeper collaboration in digital infrastructure and education. Politburo member Nguyen Duy Ngoc met with leaders from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) during the trip. The discussions focused on technology, innovation, and academic partnerships between the two nations. During the visit, Nguyen Duy Ngoc held working sessions with UIDAI officials, who presented India’s Aadhaar system. This national digital identity platform assigns 12-digit numbers to over 1.4 billion citizens, enabling biometric verification and secure access to public services. Ngoc praised India’s platform-driven approach, highlighting its role in scaling digital services and fostering innovation.

At IIT Madras, Ngoc commended the institute’s research model, which bridges academia with industry and innovation. Professor V. Kamakoti, the institute’s director, proposed expanding ties through joint training programmes, student exchanges, and possible articulation agreements. IIT Madras has already worked with 18 Vietnamese universities and co-authored 68 scientific papers with Vietnamese researchers over the past six years. The talks also covered plans for IIT Madras to establish a cooperative facility in Vietnam. Both sides agreed to increase expert exchanges and share technical and policy knowledge in the near future. Ngoc reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in deep technology, workforce training, and innovation ecosystem development.

The meetings resulted in concrete plans for closer collaboration between Vietnam and India. Joint efforts will focus on digital identity systems, academic research, and technology-driven education. Both nations aim to build on existing partnerships to support their digital economies and innovation goals.
