Vidzeme Highway portion near Sigulda will experience closure throughout summer.

Work has commenced on the Vidzeme highway (A2), specifically on the stretch from the Sigulda CSDD/"Aerodium" to the Jūdažu/R. Blaumaņa Street intersection in Sigulda (km 46.30-52.09), as well as resurfacing of the road within this section.

Vidzeme Highway portion near Sigulda will experience closure throughout summer.

The coming months will see significant construction works taking place in Sigulda, Latvia. The focus of these works will be on the Lorupe valley bridge and the Vidzeme motorway (A2).

From 20 May until autumn, the Lorupe viaduct works will be carried out. Simultaneously, the reconstruction of the Lorupe valley bridge and the adjacent road section will begin, aimed at improving the structural integrity and safety of the bridge. This project also includes the upgrading of the road surface between the Lorupe Bridge and Kalna Street to enhance driving conditions.

In addition, new pedestrian sidewalks and lighting will be installed to increase pedestrian safety along this corridor. Utility repairs and upgrades, such as water and drainage systems, will also be part of these works to support the infrastructure improvements.

During this period, traffic will be redirected, and local authorities advise planning alternate routes to avoid disruptions. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journey.

The Vidzeme motorway (A2) will undergo reconstruction from Sigulda CSDD/"Aerodium" to the railway overpass, spanning a total length of 3.5 km. The works include the reconstruction of the road base and asphalt pavement. A speed limit of 50 km/h has been implemented in the construction sections.

It's important to note that the Lorupe viaduct works are separate from the works on the Lorupe valley bridge and the Vidzeme motorway. The traffic from the Lorupe viaduct to Kalna Street in Sigulda will be closed from 20 May until autumn. However, this closure will not affect the traffic from the Lorupe bridge to Kalna Street, as it is already closed for construction.

To manage traffic during the Lorupe viaduct works, drivers are advised to follow the traffic organisation signs. A roundabout will be built at Kalna Street in Sigulda to improve and calm traffic. Traffic will be diverted to the 1.7 km-long access road to Lorupe valley (V96).

Furthermore, the Lorupe valley bridge (km 48.7) will have its existing carriageway structure demolished and a new one constructed. No information is provided about any new structures or repairs to be made specifically on the Lorupe viaduct in this paragraph.

As part of these works, technical pavements, safety barrier waterproofing, expansion joints, and damage to the span and abutment structures caused during operation will be repaired for the Lorupe valley bridge.

Lastly, it's worth mentioning that the Lorupe valley bridge was built in 1968. Drivers are advised to stay informed and follow the latest traffic updates during these construction periods.
