Kazakhstan's KOREM JSC Certifies Settlement Software Ahead of Deadline
Kazakhstan’s electricity market operator, KOREM JSC, has completed a key directive well ahead of time. The company was ordered to certify its settlement centre software by March 2026—but finished the work early. This move aims to strengthen market reliability and cut cybersecurity threats. The Supreme Audit Chamber had flagged serious issues with KOREM JSC’s settlement software. The system, used for the electricity balancing market, lacked proper certification and commissioning. Officials warned of risks: no state oversight, potential technical failures, and a loss of trust among market participants.
KOREM JSC, which oversees Kazakhstan’s electricity and capacity markets, acted quickly. Instead of waiting until the March 2026 deadline, the operator finalised the certification process ahead of schedule. The early completion now reduces vulnerabilities in the system and improves overall market stability.
The certified software removes previous risks linked to unregulated operations. Market participants can expect greater security and transparency in settlements. KOREM JSC’s swift action also ensures compliance with national oversight requirements well before the original deadline.
