Xpeng Unveils Premium Electric Sedan, the P7
Xpeng Motors, a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has unveiled its latest offering - the P7 sedan. This tech-focused, premium electric fastback aims to challenge luxury EV leaders with its advanced technology, strong performance, long range, and elegant design, targeting markets in China and Europe.
The P7 will make its official debut this week. It will be available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants. The RWD version is equipped with a single motor producing 270 kW (around 362 hp), while the AWD variant features dual motors (167 kW front + 270 kW rear), combining for a combined output of 437 kW (around 586 hp).
The P7's battery system uses advanced liquid cooling for thermal efficiency and stability. It offers two battery options: a smaller 74.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from Eve Energy for the entry-level model, and a larger 92.2 kWh ternary NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery from CALB for long-range and performance variants. The vehicle is built on an 800-volt silicon carbide (SiC) high-voltage architecture enabling ultra-fast 5C charging. It supports peak charging rates up to 486 kW, allowing 10-80% charge in about 11.3 minutes.
In terms of range, the P7 offers impressive figures. Based on China's CLTC standard, estimated driving ranges are 702 km for the base RWD, 820 km for the long-range RWD, and 750 km for the AWD model. The P7's aerodynamic design, with a drag coefficient of only 0.201 Cd, also contributes to its impressive range.
The interior of the P7 is as impressive as its powertrain. It features a giant 87-inch augmented reality heads-up display (AR-HUD) for an immersive driving experience. The "Xsmart Face" front design includes through-type LED daytime running lights and hidden main headlights. The interior styling is overseen by French designer Rafik Ferrag, emphasizing a streamlined and angular design ethos. Flush door handles and blackened A-pillars create a floating roof effect enhancing sleekness and aerodynamics.
The P7's interior layout centers around a "technology island," which includes a tri-spoke sport steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a new tri-axis rotating infotainment screen. The P7 also introduces an industry-first "Touch Pad" control interface, supporting various comfort and utility functions such as seat heating, ventilation, massage, and trunk access.
The P7 sedan is not just about performance and technology. It also offers a luxurious ride. Battery packs for the P7 will be available in two sizes: 74.9 kWh and 92.2 kWh. The vehicle measures 5,017 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, 1,427 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,008 mm, and uses a unibody construction.
The P7 will face stiff competition in the mid-to-premium electric sedan segment, with rivals including the Tesla Model 3 and Xiaomi SU7. However, with its advanced specifications and premium design, the P7 is poised to make a significant impact in the market.
Xpeng Motors has delivered a record 36,717 vehicles in July, driven by the Mona and P7+ models. The company's new P7 represents another step forward in their mission to provide high-quality, innovative electric vehicles to customers around the world.
