Ferrari Acquires Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra Electric Vehicle for Research

Ferrari has acquired and is studying Xiaomi's SU7 Ultra electric vehicle as part of its preparations to develop its own upcoming electric platform. The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra was spotted leaving Ferrari's Maranello workshops in Italy, marking a rare appearance of a Chinese electric car at Ferrari's headquarters.

Rumours of a potential collaboration between Ferrari and Xiaomi emerged last year, with Ferrari representatives reportedly visiting Xiaomi’s headquarters to discuss electric motors. Although no formal partnership was announced, Ferrari's interest in Xiaomi's advanced electric drivetrain, platform architecture, and thermal management under high-performance conditions is evident.

The move aligns with Ferrari's broader strategy to learn from Chinese electric vehicle innovations, as it prepares to launch its first fully electric Ferrari, code-named Elettrica, expected in spring 2026. Ferrari is conducting due diligence by benchmarking the SU7 Ultra’s high-performance capabilities, including its record-setting Nürburgring lap times for an electric sedan.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has gained recognition for its performance specifications and advanced electric architecture. Prior to its arrival at Ferrari's headquarters, it was previously spotted at Hyundai's headquarters in South Korea, indicating its potential use in research and development.

Ferrari is yet to reveal any further information about the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi, or the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra beyond what has been mentioned. However, the timing of Ferrari's acquisition of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is particularly noteworthy given the upcoming reveal of Ferrari's first electric vehicle.

In addition, internal sources from a factory tour suggest that Ferrari intends to unveil its first all-electric model by the end of this year. This camouflaged test vehicle, identified as a pure electric test platform featuring fake exhaust pipes, was spotted outside a factory on July 28. This test vehicle is highly likely to be Ferrari's upcoming electric vehicle.
