GSIS unveils bike and e-mobility loans to slash commuting costs for workers
The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has launched a new loan programme to help members cut transport costs. Called the Ginhawa Bike and E-Mobility Loan (GBEL), it offers affordable financing for bicycles and electric vehicles. The scheme went live on Monday, providing government workers with a flexible way to fund greener commuting options. The GBEL covers brand-new bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds, cargo e-bikes, and folding e-bikes. Qualified members can borrow up to 100% of the unit cost, with a maximum loan amount of PHP300,000. Repayment terms stretch over 36 months at a fixed 5% annual interest rate, with no additional service fees upon approval.
Applications are processed entirely online via the GSIS Touch app. The programme builds on the existing Ginhawa Solar Energy Loan (GSEL), which already helps households reduce electricity bills. By extending financial support to transport, the GBEL aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s push for more livable and accessible communities under the UPLIFT initiative. GSIS President Wick Veloso described the loan as a practical solution for workers wanting cheaper and more flexible travel. The scheme aims to ease daily commuting costs while promoting sustainable mobility options.
The GBEL provides government employees with an affordable way to purchase bikes and electric vehicles. Loans are capped at PHP300,000, with a straightforward 36-month repayment plan. The programme supports both cost savings and environmental goals by expanding access to greener transport.
