Five 2026 Model Y vehicles by Tesla are being recalled due to potential horn issues.
In a move to ensure the safety and functionality of its vehicles, Tesla has initiated a physical recall for a select number of 2026 Model Y cars produced at Giga Texas. The recall, announced on July 23, 2025, is due to a manufacturing issue that can render the horn inoperable.
The problem stems from a loose horn ground wire that may not have been properly secured during assembly. This issue can cause an open circuit, disabling the horn. However, it's important to note that no crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been reported in connection with the issue.
Tesla discovered two related warranty claims, but further information about these incidents has not been provided. A total of five vehicles have been identified as being affected by this issue.
To rectify the problem, Tesla is offering inspections and repairs at no cost to customers. The solution involves a physical inspection and repair by Tesla service technicians. They will verify the integrity of the horn ground wire’s ring terminal and secure it properly if it is found to be loose.
The repair process cannot be fixed via an over-the-air software update. Instead, it requires a visit to a Tesla service centre.
In collaboration with Yanfeng International Automotive Technology, Tesla conducted a review of production and service records to identify affected vehicles. The correction was made through enhanced fastener height inspections and retraining of assembly line operators on proper harness routing.
Unlike most Tesla recalls, this one requires a physical service, not a software update. It's also worth noting that Transport Canada will not be issuing a similar recall as no vehicles from Giga Texas have been imported into Canada.
Customers can use Tesla's VIN Recall Search tool to check if their 2026 Model Y is part of the recall. The recall notice can be found on Tesla's website for more information.

- Despite the recall not being issued in Canada, this incident highlights the importance of industry standards in manufacturing, especially in the automotive sector, where safety features like car horns play a crucial role in transportation.
- As the horn issue requires physical inspection and repair rather than an over-the-air software update, the technology industry will need to collaborate closely with companies in the finance sector to ensure customers have access to timely and affordable servicing, especially in light of this recall.
