Davao's fuel subsidy slashes P1,500 weekly for jeepney, van drivers

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Davao is urging public utility jeepney (PUJ) and van operators to take full advantage of a new fuel subsidy programme. Under the initiative, qualified drivers can save up to P1,500 per week on diesel costs, easing the impact of rising fuel prices. The programme offers a P10-per-litre discount on diesel for eligible public utility vehicles. Each unit can claim up to 30 litres daily, resulting in P300 in savings per day, or 150 litres weekly. To access the discount, drivers simply need to provide their PUV plate number at participating gasoline stations.

As of May 18, 53 stations across the Davao Region had already signed up. Over 100 more in Davao City were undergoing verification and expected to join soon. The scheme covers around 4,468 diesel-powered PUJs and UV Express vans in the region. The subsidy follows directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, and LTFRB Chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II. Its goal is to provide direct relief to operators struggling with high fuel costs.

The LTFRB Davao continues to push for wider participation among qualified operators. With more stations set to join, the programme aims to ensure that savings reach as many drivers as possible in the coming weeks.
