Berlin Senate Selects Consortium to Revamp ICC by 2026

The Berlin Senate has chosen a specialized consortium of Berlin-based companies to develop a future concept for the International Congress Centre (ICC) by April 2026. The consortium, comprising firms from construction, architecture, project development, and building technology, will work on a usage concept for the ICC Berlin, aiming to find a suitable operator for the venue.

The selected consortium will operate under the guidance of a jury until the end of April 2026. Their task is to create a usage concept that aligns with the guidelines of art, culture, creative industries, innovation, technology, and congress and event management. The land at Messedamm 9 will remain in the ownership of the state of Berlin, with an hereditary building right granted for 99 years.

The decision follows a participation competition where other applicants did not meet the requirements sufficiently to proceed. The consortium, whose exact composition remains undisclosed, will undertake to renovate, rebuild, and reopen the building, ensuring its permanent operation with a viable concept. A recommendation for award is scheduled for July 2026.

The Berlin Senate continues its pursuit to find an investor for the ICC with this consortium. The consortium's strong connection to Berlin and diverse expertise promise a future-oriented concept for the ICC, aligning with the city's cultural and economic goals.
