Bayer overhauls global payments with Broadridge Swift migration

Bayer AG has completed a major upgrade to its global payment infrastructure. The company migrated to the Broadridge Swift Service Bureau (SSB), a move designed to improve compliance, risk management, and operational control. The project involved close collaboration with Broadridge and a structured two-phase approach.

The migration began with Phase 1, where Bayer transitioned to the Broadridge Swift Service Bureau. Phase 2 followed, integrating Swift’s Transaction Screening Service (TSS) directly into the message flow. This ensured real-time monitoring of financial transactions.

Before going live, Bayer conducted extensive testing. They exchanged messages with over 20 banking partners, verifying the system’s ability to handle high transaction volumes and diverse payment types. The new infrastructure now supports 4 million annual payment transactions across more than 80 global banking partners. The upgraded system aligns with ISO 20022 standards, enabling secure and standardised financial messaging. It also allows for complex system integration and rigorous validation processes. Broadridge provided a scalable platform that meets Swift SCORE+ performance requirements, ensuring reliability and efficiency. Marcel Bennemann, Project Manager at Bayer AG, highlighted the migration’s role in strengthening the company’s global treasury infrastructure. Heidi Dittmar, Head of Germany at Broadridge, emphasised the technical expertise and teamwork needed for such a large-scale Swift migration. The project followed an agile model, allowing rapid adjustments and close coordination between both teams.

The migration modernises Bayer’s financial operations, improving security and standardisation. The new system now handles millions of transactions annually while meeting strict compliance and performance standards. This upgrade positions Bayer for more efficient and secure global payments in the future.
