Borken District Police Warn of Phone Scam Involving Fraudulent Bank Employees

A phone scam targeting unsuspecting individuals has been reported in the Borken district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Unknown perpetrators managed to defraud a woman in Vreden of more than 10,000 euros on Monday by posing as bank employees.

According to the Borken District Police Headquarters, the scammers contacted the victim by phone and claimed that her account was at risk. They then convinced her to transfer the money to another account for supposed security reasons. The police have issued a warning about this scam, advising that no legitimate bank will ever call its customers and ask them to make transfers.

Anyone receiving such a call should not engage in conversation and should instead contact their bank directly. It is also recommended to dial the bank's number yourself, rather than pressing the call-back button. The Borken District Police Headquarters did not provide any new information about the perpetrators of the scam or whether they have made any arrests in relation to the case.

The Borken District Police Headquarters' website is https://borken.polizei.nrw, and the contacts at the headquarters are Sandra Biedermann, Leonie Dreier, Julia Hoffboll, Markus Huls, Peter Lefering, Thorsten Ohm, and Tina Schellberg. The headquarters can also be contacted at 02861-900-2222.

This phone scam is one of several methods used by criminals to target victims by phone. The police urge everyone to remain vigilant and to be aware of such scams, as they continue to evolve and become more sophisticated. If you believe you have been a victim of a phone scam, or if you have any information about the scam in Vreden, please contact the Borken District Police Headquarters.
