Zurich Airport’s Circle loses Omega as Edelweiss steps in to reshape the space
The Circle complex at Zurich Airport is set for another major change as Omega prepares to leave its flagship boutique. The luxury watchmaker’s departure marks the second high-profile exit from the ground-floor retail space, following Jelmoli’s earlier move. Edelweiss, a Lufthansa subsidiary, will now take over the vacant unit and transform it into a new event and office hub.
Omega’s boutique was once the largest in Europe, covering 800 square metres across two floors. Despite its size, the store often appeared quiet, with staff frequently seen waiting for customers. The lack of footfall reflects broader struggles for ground-floor commercial spaces in the Circle, where vacancies and tenant turnover have become common.
Edelweiss, which has been headquartered in the complex since 2021, will now expand its presence. The airline plans to repurpose the ground floor for events and inspiration, while also growing its office space on the upper levels. Unlike the retail units below, these floors remain in high demand, generating millions in revenue for the complex. The Circle will still host other tenants, including Visilab, Bachmann, and Sunrise. But with Omega’s exit, the focus shifts to Edelweiss as the new anchor for the ground-floor area, aiming to bring fresh activity to the space.
The departure of Omega leaves another gap in the Circle’s retail lineup, reinforcing the trend of struggling ground-floor units. Edelweiss’s move signals a shift toward event-driven and office use for the space. The airline’s expansion will now shape the future of this high-profile location at Zurich Airport.
