Yakutsk Public Transport Fares to Rise, Non-Cash Fares Stable
Yakutsk, Russia, is set to see changes in its public transport fares. The cash fare is expected to rise, but the non-cash fares may remain stable. The extent of the increase is still under discussion.
The fare hike is attributed to the rising costs of fuel and spare parts. As part of an ongoing reform, a new public transport system is also on the horizon. Mayor Evgeny Grigoryev has stated that encouraging the use of transport cards, such as the 'Sputnik' card or monthly passes, is a key goal. These non-cash fares will remain almost unchanged at around 23 rubles. The increase, however, will not occur during the fall season. After the fall season, Grigoryev plans to discuss the fare changes with private operators.
Yakutsk residents can expect a fare increase in the near future, but the details are yet to be finalized. The mayor's plans to discuss the changes with private operators after the fall season suggest a careful approach to the implementation of these changes.
