Wuppertal School Renovation Delivers More Than Expected, Under Budget

A school in Wuppertal has successfully completed a comprehensive renovation project, transforming its facilities while staying within budget. The 750,000 euro project was funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and local building maintenance funds.

The renovation began with an initial goal to enhance acoustics in three classrooms. However, the ceiling's nature required additional work, including wide-span supports and hazardous material renovation. Despite these extra measures, the project remained under budget by approximately 150,000 euros.

The vacant janitor's apartment was repurposed, creating two new classes. Additionally, two ground floor rooms were combined to form a large teacher's room and three offices. Urgently needed unisex staff toilets were also added on the second floor. Heritage protection was maintained by historically reconstructing an old wardrobe and restoring baseboards. Fire safety was improved with the installation of two emergency exits in the basement.

The renovation project, carried out in coordination with the school, not only improved the learning environment but also provided additional facilities for staff. The project's success can be attributed to effective planning and management, as it was completed under budget despite unexpected additional work.
