The CII Water Institute, a leading organisation in water resource management, is playing a crucial role in addressing the growing issue of water scarcity in India. With a mission to ensure that the country can meet its water needs sustainably and equitably for future generations, the Institute is paving the way for a future where water security is achievable.

Through its innovative tools and initiatives, the Institute is setting new benchmarks in water management. For instance, WATSCAN, an integrated GIS-based water evaluation tool, is being used for water-smart decision-making. This tool, along with initiatives like Water Audits, the Blue Rating System, and the Water PINCH Analysis (WPA), is designed to reduce freshwater use and minimize wastewater generation.

The Institute's Blue Rating System, a unique certification system, evaluates the water performance of industrial facilities, encouraging continuous improvement. This system has already certified 12 plants as aspiring Water Neutral or Positive. Moreover, the Institute provides Water Status Evaluations, including Water Neutrality certification for Indian industries, aligned with NITI Aayog's 2023 guidelines.

The CII Water Institute's projects have the potential to save 1.5 billion liters of water and reduce wastewater by 75 million liters. Approximately 3.54 lakh square kilometers of India have been mapped for water resource management by the Institute, with the aim of changing water conservation and management practices not just in India, but also in neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan through the Indus Basin Initiative (IBI).

The Institute's initiatives have directly impacted the lives of 30,000 people, providing improved access to water resources and better living conditions. The Water Awards program, for instance, has sensitized over 28,000 stakeholders to the importance of effective water management.

Moreover, the Institute recognises 625 industrial initiatives for improved water management practices. The Water Neutrality Certification program is another testament to the Institute's commitment to fostering collaboration and raising awareness about the importance of sustainable water management.

In conclusion, the CII Water Institute is leading the charge in addressing water scarcity in India. Through its innovative tools, initiatives, and commitment to sustainable water management, it is paving the way for a future where water security is achievable, and the lives of millions of people are improved.
