Wasserwerk Baumberg GmbH's supervisory board has a new leader: Carsten Voigt steps into the position of chairman.
In the heart of Germany, the Baumberg Waterworks continues to ensure the supply of high-quality drinking water to the local community. The waterworks, a joint operation by Stadtwerke Solingen and Stadtwerke Hilden, has undergone a change in leadership.
Dr. Bernhard Sandermann has been elected as the new chairman of Wasserwerk Baumberg GmbH's supervisory board, taking office on January 1, 2025. His predecessor, Torsten Brehmer, will assume the deputy chairmanship.
The Baumberg Waterworks is renowned for its role in treating and supplying drinking water. Over the years, the groundwater has flowed through meter-thick rock layers and absorbed lime, contributing to its quality. The water extracted and treated in Hilden-Karnap and Monheim-Baumberg is predominantly groundwater, making it harder than the surface water from the reservoir, with a medium hardness of 11 dH.
Carsten Voigt, a member of the Solingen Christian Democrats, will succeed Torsten Brehmer as the new chairman. Voigt, who acknowledged the importance of the water supply of the region as a sensitive and valuable resource, emphasized the need for good and constructive cooperation, especially in times of increasing threats to critical infrastructures.
The Baumberg Waterworks is equally represented by members from Hilden and Solingen on the supervisory board. The waterworks' reach extends as far as Ohligs, Merscheid, and Aufderhöhe, supplying an annual volume of between 4 and 4.5 million cubic meters of water to Hilden, Langenfeld, and Solingen.
Ernst Lauterjung proposed Carsten Voigt for the position of the new chairman, and the election was unanimous among the 8-member committee. Voigt thanked Torsten Brehmer for their years of working together, expressing gratitude for their leadership and dedication to the Baumberg Waterworks.
Stadtwerke Solingen GmbH (SW SG) is the drinking water supplier for the city of Solingen (Eigenbetrieb Wasser, short: EBW). In addition to Baumberg, the waterworks available for supply in Solingen include Wasserwerk Glüder and Dabringhausen Bremen. Each of these waterworks treats raw water from its unique source: the Baumberg-Monheim and Hilden-Karnap well facilities, the Sengbachtalsperre, and the Große Dhünntalsperre, respectively.
As the Baumberg Waterworks embarks on a new chapter, it remains committed to maintaining water safety and reliability in its operations, ensuring the continued provision of high-quality drinking water to the local community.
