Wanxiang A123's Star Series batteries redefine safety with unmatched thermal resilience

Wanxiang A123 Systems Corp. has launched two new energy storage solutions: the Star Series semi-solid-state battery cells and the Star River Series immersion cooling systems. These innovations aim to tackle long-standing safety concerns in high-demand applications.

The technologies promise earlier hazard detection and improved thermal control, even under extreme conditions.

The Star Series cells feature 'Full-Domain Ice Sealing' technology, designed to prevent thermal runaway. In rigorous tests, they withstood ten simultaneous steel needle punctures without fire, smoke, or heat spread. This level of resilience sets them apart from conventional battery systems.

The Star River Series complements the cells with immersion cooling, ensuring uniform heat distribution. If a cell fails, the system contains the heat, stopping it from spreading to neighboring units. Together, these advances form a next-generation safety framework for energy storage.

Wanxiang A123's Wireless BMS platform further enhances protection by monitoring internal pressure. Equipped with pressure sensors, it can issue safety alerts up to 10 minutes sooner than traditional methods. The system is tailored for high-risk environments, including data centers, offshore sites, and transport-limited installations.

Four specialized versions of the platform address mission-critical needs. Each variant adapts the core technology to specific operational challenges, from outdoor setups to confined spaces.

The Star Series and Star River Series mark a step forward in battery safety, combining thermal stability with early warning capabilities. Their performance in extreme tests suggests potential for wider adoption in industries where reliability is critical.

No public records indicate that other companies have patented similar semi-solid-state battery technologies with comparable thermal stability since 2025.
