VW Golf Faces Stiff 2025 EV Competition, Used Prices Vary Across Europe

The VW Golf faces stiff competition in 2025 from European and Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers. Meanwhile, used Golf prices in Germany have seen significant changes since 2017, with varying affordability across European countries.

In 2025, the VW Golf will compete with Peugeot's e-5008 and e-3008 Long Range electric SUVs, Alfa Romeo's new Stelvio on the STLA platform, and several models from Chinese brand BYD, including the Sealion 7, Atto 2, and Dolphin Surf. Prices for these competitors range from around €19,990 to €47,990, with the VW Golf's pricing in Germany remaining competitive.

Since 2017, used Golf prices in Germany have risen by 31.7%, or €4,794, while net incomes have increased by 26% in the same period. Inflation, supply chain disruptions, and technological advantages of newer model years are cited as price drivers. The time Germans need to save for a Golf varies, with Belgians requiring the shortest time (5.7 monthly incomes) and Italians the longest (9.6).

In 2023, the average used Golf price was €19,912, a decrease of €715 or 3.5% compared to 2022. In 2024, used Golf prices dropped in all considered European countries, most notably in Belgium (-13.5%) and the Netherlands (-10.9%). In Germany, the average used Golf price is around 8.7 monthly net incomes, a decrease of 0.7 compared to 2023.

The VW Golf's competitive landscape in 2025 includes several electric vehicle rivals, with varying prices. Used Golf prices in Germany have seen significant changes since 2017, with affordability varying across European countries. Despite these changes, the Golf remains a popular and competitive choice.
