Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles sees record sales but profit slump in 2025

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) reported mixed financial results for 2025 despite strong sales growth. Revenue and deliveries rose sharply, but regulatory costs and market challenges cut into profits. The company also outlined plans for new models and technology updates in 2026.

VWN delivered 428,000 vehicles in 2025, a 6% increase over the previous year. Revenue reached €16.9 billion, up 11% from 2024. The Multivan saw its best performance yet, with deliveries climbing 31% to 38,700 units.

The ID. Buzz remained Europe's top-selling electric van, with over 60,000 units sold—more than double the 2024 figure. Order intake for 2025 surged by nearly a third, though some deliveries were pushed back to 2026. VWN maintained its leading position in Germany and 11 other European markets.

However, operating profit fell sharply to €245 million, down from €743 million in 2024. The operating return on sales dropped to just 1.5%. The decline was partly due to provisions for potential EU CO₂ penalties and challenges in North America, including tariffs and the loss of electric vehicle incentives. Despite these pressures, strict cost controls helped net cash flow jump to €1 billion—a 208% increase over 2024.

Looking ahead, VWN plans a major update for 2026. This includes new variants and features for the ID. Buzz, as well as plug-in hybrid versions of the Transporter and Caravelle.

VWN's 2025 results highlight strong demand for its vehicles, particularly the ID. Buzz and Multivan. Yet regulatory costs and market hurdles weighed on profitability. The company's upcoming product upgrades aim to strengthen its position in both electric and hybrid commercial segments.
