Vietnam’s OCOP Products Gain Global Momentum Through Digital Trade and Tourism

Vietnam is pushing to expand exports of its OCOP products—high-quality goods made through traditional, small-scale production. These items, tied to local craft villages and family businesses, now face new opportunities as authorities seek more innovative and sustainable trade strategies. Efforts include partnerships with global e-commerce platforms and greater integration into tourism services.

The Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade) has taken steps to boost OCOP exports by collaborating with major online marketplaces like Alibaba and Amazon. This move aims to widen market access for producers, who often struggle with limited research, small production scales, and inconsistent packaging or labelling.

Research institutes have analysed the competitive strengths of different OCOP product groups in international markets. Their findings help tailor promotion strategies for specific regions. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has worked to strengthen the brand image of these goods, emphasising their traceability and local heritage.

To showcase the products, the OCOPEX Fair was held in Hanoi, drawing 200–300 OCOP businesses. The event enabled direct exchanges with buyers from neighbouring countries and beyond. Additionally, OCOP items have appeared at key trade fairs in Italy and Germany, targeting wholesale and retail networks.

Tourism has also become a channel for promotion. OCOP products are now featured along travel routes, paired with experiential activities and shopping opportunities for visitors.

The push to diversify and modernise trade promotion comes as Vietnam seeks more sustainable growth for its OCOP sector. By addressing production challenges and leveraging digital platforms, authorities aim to secure stronger international demand. The integration of these products into tourism and global exhibitions further supports their market expansion.
