Verdi union launches warning strikes at AOK health insurance over pay demands
The Verdi union has called for warning strikes at AOK health insurance offices in Baden-Württemberg. Workers are demanding a 7.5 percent pay rise, with a minimum increase of €375 over 12 months. The move follows stalled wage negotiations with employers.
Around 11,500 AOK employees in Baden-Württemberg will take part in the strikes. Eleven of the 14 regional offices, the headquarters, and the IT subsidiary ITSCare will face one-day walkouts. Some rallies will join forces with public-sector workers already on strike.
The first round of talks ended without an offer from employers. Verdi's action could impact roughly 55,000 AOK staff nationwide, as similar negotiations by the GdS union have also led to strike calls. The next negotiations are set for February 17 and 18.
The strikes aim to push for higher wages after employers failed to present a proposal. With further talks planned, the outcome will determine whether more industrial action follows. The dispute affects thousands of health insurance workers across Germany.
