Vegan Burger Chain Swing Kitchen Shuts Down in Germany Amid Insolvency

Vegan burger chain Swing Kitchen has shut down all its German branches due to insolvency. The company's parent, Schillinger Vegan Holding GmbH, has entered insolvency proceedings, with liabilities of about 4.3 million euros affecting around 40 creditors.

The insolvency was triggered by a combination of factors, including rising energy and personnel costs, a decline in customer numbers, and intense competition from other burger chains like Burger King. Despite the growing demand for vegan products, which saw a 10 percent increase in sales in 2024, particularly in the discount channel, Swing Kitchen struggled to maintain its footing against established competitors like Burger King.

To address the situation, the company plans to restructure. This will involve closing branches, reducing jobs, revising its branding, and adjusting its product range and pricing strategies. However, the search for a new owner after the reorganization in 2022 has not yielded any results so far.

Swing Kitchen, founded in 2014 and expanded with international investment in 2021, has faced significant challenges leading to its current insolvency. The restructuring process aims to revive the vegan burger chain, but the outcome remains uncertain.
