Ursula Heinen-Esser Elected as New BEE President with 100% of Votes
Ursula Heinen-Esser has been elected as the new President of the Federal Association of Renewable Energy (BEE) with an overwhelming 100% of the votes. She succeeds Simone Peter, who led the association since 2018 and did not run for re-election.
Heinen-Esser, a graduate economist and former member of the German Bundestag for the CDU, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She served as Parliamentary State Secretary in two federal ministries from 2007 to 2013 and held positions related to radioactive waste management and disposal from 2014 to 2018. Most recently, she served as the Minister for the Environment, Agriculture, Nature, and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia from 2018 to 2022.
The new board of the BEE, comprising 15 members representing various renewable energy sectors and regions, was also elected. After her election, Heinen-Esser thanked the delegates and stated that further establishing the BEE as a strong voice and actively proposing ideas for the energy transition are central tasks. Peter, who is now the President of the Protection Association German Forest, looks optimistically to the future of renewable energies and wishes Heinen-Esser success in her presidency.
Heinen-Esser's election comes at a crucial time for the renewable energy news. A recent study commissioned by the 'New Energy Alliance' consortium, which includes companies like 1KOMMA5°, Enpal, and Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH, estimates the value of decentralized energy in the billions. With her extensive background and the support of the new board, Heinen-Esser is well-positioned to drive the energy transition forward.
