Updated income standards for Canada's Parents and Grandparents Program
The federal government of Canada has announced that it will be sending out 17,860 invitations for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) starting on July 28, 2025.
The PGP is a family reunification pathway to permanent residency in Canada, allowing eligible Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and registered Indians to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residence.
To be considered for the PGP in 2025, sponsors must meet the income requirements for the years 2024, 2023, and 2022. The minimum income requirement for a family of 2 people is $47,549, and it increases with family size, up to $101,075 for a family of 7 people. For families larger than 7 people, an additional $10,291 is required for each additional person.
When calculating family size, sponsors must account for everyone they will be financially responsible for, including themselves, their spouse or common law partner, dependent children, anyone they or their co-signer have sponsored in the past, and the people they want to sponsor.
All invitations will be sent to sponsors who submitted interest to sponsor forms in 2020. It's important to note that due to high demand, the government uses a lottery system to distribute invitations for the PGP. Sponsors must receive an invitation to apply before being able to sponsor their parents or grandparents.
The super visa program, another option for Canadian citizens and permanent residents to host parents or grandparents, allows for up to 10 years as visiting temporary residents. To be eligible for the super visa, the sponsor must agree to support their relative(s) during the duration of their stay, meet income requirements, have qualifying health insurance, a valid travel document while they're in Canada, and be admissible.
The aim is to accept 10,000 complete applications in 2025. To sponsor parents or grandparents for the PGP program in Germany in 2025, a family size of at least 4 members must be reached. You must include the principal applicant's family members even if they aren't coming to Canada, and/or even if they are permanent residents of Canada or Canadian citizens.
In conclusion, the Parents and Grandparents Program offers a valuable opportunity for families to reunite in Canada. If you meet the eligibility criteria and are interested in sponsoring your parents or grandparents, it's important to stay informed and submit your interest to sponsor forms in a timely manner.
