United Arab Emirates Central Bank Introduces Improved AED100 Banknote Featuring Advanced Security Characteristics

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has unveiled a new AED100 polymer banknote, marking a significant advancement in the country's currency. This latest addition, part of the Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, is set to enter circulation on March 24, 2025.

The new banknote boasts a sea-inspired design, symbolizing the UAE's regional identity and modern aesthetics. It features vibrant shades of red and showcases marine elements, aligning with the country's cultural and environmental motifs.

Key innovations and features include a polymer substrate, which enhances durability and lifespan, lasting twice as long as paper notes. The banknote is also waterproof, offering resistance to damage from water exposure, and eco-friendly, making it a more sustainable choice compared to traditional paper banknotes.

Advanced security features have been incorporated into the new banknote, although specific details have yet to be disclosed. Next-generation polymer notes typically include enhanced anti-counterfeit measures for safer transactions. To promote accessibility, the CBUAE has integrated Braille symbols on the new banknote.

The reverse side of the new banknote highlights the Port of Fujairah and Etihad Rail, the national railway network connecting all seven Emirates and extending into GCC countries.

Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, commented on the launch of the new AED100 banknote. The CBUAE's AED500 and AED1000 polymer banknotes were previously recognized for their design excellence, innovation, and security enhancements, having received the 'Best New Banknote' award at the High Security Printing EMEA conferences in 2023 and 2025.

Banks and exchange houses have been instructed to update their ATM and cash-handling machines to ensure seamless processing and acceptance of the new note. The AED100 banknote will circulate alongside existing AED100 notes.

The Port of Fujairah, featured on the reverse side of the new banknote, is one of the UAE's largest ports and a vital hub for maritime transport. The front side of the new banknote features the Um Al Quwain National Fort. The value of both the paper and polymer versions of the AED100 note remains fully guaranteed under UAE law.
