UAE Unveils Third Action Plan to Slash Aircraft Emissions by 2050

The UAE has unveiled its third action plan to reduce aircraft emissions, demonstrating its commitment to global climate initiatives. The plan, submitted to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is a collaborative effort involving major national stakeholders such as the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, airlines, airport operators, and environmental organizations.

The updated plan comprises 42 projects focused on operations and technology, and 13 initiatives on sustainable aviation fuels. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and GCAA Board Chairman, praised the plan, stating it reflects the UAE's dedication to global climate action. The UAE continues to solidify its position as a leader in global aviation sustainability, having been the first country in the region to submit such a plan in 2012. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, GCAA Director-General, highlighted the plan's strategic pathway to reduce emissions by 2050.

The plan's development involved a wide range of stakeholders, including the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, airlines based in the UAE, airport operators, and environmental organizations. This collaborative approach ensures a comprehensive strategy that addresses various aspects of aviation emissions.

The UAE's third action plan to reduce aircraft emissions, developed in collaboration with major national stakeholders, provides a clear roadmap to achieve significant emission reductions by 2050. The plan reflects the UAE's ongoing commitment to global climate change and its leadership in promoting sustainable aviation practices.
