UAE Launches AED750m Emirates Road Expansion to Ease Congestion

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has launched a AED750 million project to expand and upgrade Emirates Road. The initiative aims to ease congestion, enhance connectivity, and support trade across the northern Emirates. The project reflects the UAE's commitment to sustainable, innovative solutions, as highlighted by Youssef Abdullah, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Federal Infrastructure Projects Sector.

The 25-kilometre stretch of Emirates Road will be expanded from three to five lanes in each direction. This upgrade will increase the road's capacity by 65 percent, allowing it to handle up to 9,000 vehicles per hour. To improve traffic flow, service roads covering 3.4 kilometres will be constructed. The project is expected to cut travel times by up to 45 percent for commuters.

During construction, phased traffic management strategies and detours will be implemented to minimise disruption. Interchange No. 7 will be redeveloped with six new directional bridges, boosting its capacity to 13,200 vehicles per hour. The initiative will also help lower emissions and support the movement of goods across the Emirates.

The AED750 million project to expand and upgrade Emirates Road is set to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel times. With increased capacity and enhanced connectivity, the project supports the UAE's commitment to sustainable, innovative infrastructure solutions.
