Typhoon Bualoi Leaves 29 Dead, 158,000 Homes Destroyed in Vietnam

Typhoon Bualoi has wreaked havoc across northern to central Vietnam, leaving a trail of destruction and devastation. Over 158,000 houses were destroyed, damaged, or inundated, with 14,000 homes submerged by flooding. The storm has resulted in 29 deaths and over 100 injured, with 19 people still missing.

Floodwater in several rivers, including Thao, Mã, Hoàng Long and Cả rivers, are projected to remain at or above danger levels. Heavy rains are expected to persist in the coming days, with Lai Châu, Lào Cai, and Tuyên Quang provinces receiving significant rainfall. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reports flash floods and landslides in northern mountainous provinces due to the typhoon's torrential rains. Fifteen dike incidents have been recorded in several provinces, including Ninh Bình, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, and Quảng Trị. Over 26,600 hectares of rice and crops were ruined by the storm, causing extensive infrastructure damage including thousands of power poles pulled down, roads blocked, and tens of thousands of trees uprooted.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has ordered urgent measures to overcome the consequences of the typhoon and its aftermath. He has instructed the mobilization of all available resources for search, rescue, and relief efforts in the affected provinces. The government is working to coordinate and implement these measures to support the affected communities and mitigate the impact of the typhoon.
