Two highway bridges at Holplatz require extensive reconstruction.
The city is set to undertake a significant infrastructure project, with plans to rebuild two wooden-plaza bridges on an elevated road within the next one and a half years. The decision, which was unanimously approved at a meeting of the Finance, Municipal Participation, and Property Committee on Wednesday, June 18, comes due to identified damages and material weaknesses in the existing bridges.
The reconstruction of the Holzplatz bridges will involve replacing the existing structures with newly constructed partial structures. The actual work is not expected to begin by late July 2025, with the exact start date to be announced in due time.
The cost of the renovation is expected to be around 5 million euros, one million more than initially planned. This increase is attributed to the building price index having risen by more than 20 percent since the original construction resolution in December 2022.
Parallel to the Holzplatz bridge reconstruction, the city also plans to replace the elevated road bridges at the Rennbahn crossing. The execution period for this project has not been specified, but it is planned to take place during the same period as the Holzplatz bridges rebuild.
During each phase of construction, traffic will be maintained on the corresponding partial structure in both directions. Information on traffic management and specific construction phases will be provided when the start of the closure is announced.
