Trump Announces Record-Breaking Boeing Deal During Qatar Visit

Trump unveils historic procurement order for Boeing aircraft

In the heart of the Gulf region, President Donald Trump made a massive announcement during his visit to Qatar—a jaw-dropping $200 billion deal between the emirate and American aircraft manufacturer, Boeing. Excited, Trump declared, "This is the biggest order in Boeing's history, that's quite good!"

But upon returning to the White House, different numbers surfaced. The real deal? Qatar Airways aiming to acquire up to 210 jets, worth around $96 billion, focused on models such as the 787 Dreamliner and 777X.

Trump's Gulf tour has been filled with significant agreements, from aviation to defense, energy, and artificial intelligence. With the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg in tow, Trump signed numerous contracts in Qatar.

Boeing, whose reputation has recently taken a hit due to scandals, has seen a turnaround at the start of this year, largely due to increased aircraft production and a decrease in cash burn in the first quarter. CEO Kelly Ortberg showed confidence that the mid-range jet 737 Max production could level up to late-2024 standard this year.

Qatar's huge order comes after a turbulent time for Boeing, following strict restrictions by the U.S. aviation authority, FAA, due to a near-miss of a 737 Max. In the first quarter, the company managed to deliver 130 passenger and cargo jets, marking a nearly 50% increase compared to the previous year.

Before his visit to Qatar, Trump faced criticism for planning to accept a luxury jet from Qatar as a gift and use it as Air Force One. However, the White House insisted it would be labeled as a "donation" to the Pentagon.

#### Insights- The deal includes 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 777-9s, with options for another 50 aircraft.- The deal is part of a larger $243.5 billion economic agreement between the US and Qatar, encompassing various investments and partnerships.- The agreement is expected to support around 400,000 American jobs and boost American manufacturing and innovation significantly.
