THW Volunteers Battle Wildfires in Gohrischheide, Saxony

Volunteers from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) are providing crucial support in battling wildfires in Gohrischheide, Saxony. The THW, Germany's federal civil defense organization with around 88,000 volunteers, has deployed over 300 personnel to assist in the ongoing firefighting efforts. Among them are volunteers from local associations in Bremen and Lower Saxony, who are playing a significant role in the operation.

The THW's command and communication unit from the local association in Lehrte is currently on site, relieving personnel and ensuring smooth operations. Volunteers from Schöningen, Helmstedt, and Soltau have set up a supply point to support deployment logistics, while those from Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven are assessing the situation and advising the deployment leadership.

The wildfires have affected over 2,000 hectares of forest in Gohrischheide. The THW's deployment includes vital tasks such as lighting up deployment sites, transporting materials and water, pumping work, and even deploying a media team to keep the public informed.

The THW's involvement in climate-related deployments, like the current wildfires in Gohrischheide, underscores its importance in civil protection. With volunteers from seven local associations of the THW Regional Association Bremen, Lower Saxony actively supporting the efforts, the organization continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting and serving the community.
