White Ring Counts More Cases of Domestic Violence - Thuringia's hidden crisis: Domestic violence cases surge despite underreporting
Domestic violence remains a growing concern in Thuringia, with more victims seeking support each year. The charity Weißer Ring has reported a steady increase in cases, though many incidents still go unreported. Last year alone, the organisation assisted in 161 domestic violence cases across the region.
Weißer Ring, a charity supporting crime victims, has seen a rise in domestic violence cases over recent years. In 2022, the group handled 112 such cases, but by 2024, that number had climbed to 148. In 2025, domestic violence accounted for more than one in three of all counseling cases, with 161 out of 476 total cases involving abuse at home.
The organisation relies on donations, membership fees, and court-ordered payments to fund its work. A team of 62 women and 35 men volunteer as counselors, offering emotional support, legal guidance, and financial aid to survivors. Despite their efforts, the true extent of domestic violence in Thuringia remains unclear, as many victims never come forward or report their experiences to the police.
The rising number of cases suggests greater awareness of support services, but many incidents still remain hidden. Weißer Ring continues to provide essential help to victims, though the full scale of domestic violence in the region is difficult to measure. Without more reporting, the problem may be far larger than current figures show.
