The image shows a poster with the text "Finish the Job: Health Care Should Be a Right, Not a Privilege" and a card with the words "Make Lower Health Care Premiums Permanent and Close the Coverage Gap for American Families" printed on it, emphasizing the importance of health care and the need to make lower health care premiums permanent and close the coverage gap for American families.

Family caregivers in Thuringia will soon have access to free support and advice during the region’s Family Caregivers Week. AOK PLUS is hosting two events in Bad Salzungen to help those who provide essential care at home. The sessions aim to offer practical guidance while recognising the hard work of unpaid carers. As of December 31, 2025, over 109,000 people insured with AOK PLUS in Thuringia required care. Of these, 95,631 were looked after in their own homes, highlighting the crucial role of family caregivers in enabling home-based support.

The first event, a Care Café, takes place on June 2, 2026, at the AOK PLUS Bad Salzungen branch. Attendees can gather useful tips, share experiences, and meet others in similar situations. Ilona Wojnowski, an AOK PLUS board member, emphasised that family caregivers perform invaluable work but often neglect their own well-being. Two days later, on June 4, 2026, a second session will focus on legal preparedness. Titled *Planning Ahead—the Right Way: How a Power of Attorney Provides Security*, the event will cover advance directives and powers of attorney. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide personalised advice.

Both events are free and open to all family caregivers in the region. They form part of Thuringia’s wider efforts to support those who make home-based care possible. Organisers hope the sessions will ease some of the daily pressures faced by unpaid carers.
